Monthly Favourites - May 2017

As I write this post, I'm chilling after my last exam of my final year at university and can't quite believe it. May has been a long month, with lots of exams, deadlines and long waits in between. I can't say I've enjoyed it massively, but I can definitely say that I feel very lucky to have been able to afford a university education. Since classes ended around mid-May, I had a lot of time between exams to watch series, read (although I'm going through a massive reading slump) and do sudokus (which is my new favourite hobby) with my housemates.

- TV Series: Las Chicas del Cable
Las Chicas del Cable is a Spanish Netflix series about a group of young women working at a phone company in 1920s Madrid, their friendships and love stories. Besides being a great way to listen to some Spanish, the series is very catchy, with a very intriguing plot. I especially liked how women's social conditions in those years are problematised and the depiction of the first feminist movements. The series has a great soundtrack and a very modern feeling to it which reminded me of the last version of Great Gatsby.
- TV Series: Velvet
Velvet is also a Spanish series that I'm currently watching on Netflix (while I wait for the second season of Las Chicas del Cable...) and it's very similar to the former. This one's about the impossible love story between the director of the Galerías Velvet, a prestigious fashion store in 1960s Madrid, and a seamstress, and the drama surrounding the staff working in Velvet. I'd say this series is quite old-fashioned but still very good - the characters are so unique and so typically Spanish which I love.
- YouTube Channel: Cornelia Grimsmo
Cornelia Grimsmo is currently one of my favourite Youtubers. Her channel is about fashion, veganism and self-help, my favourite aspect. She often talks about law of attraction, self-love and acceptance and more. I really like her English accent even though she's not an English native speaker and it's so different from my British one and I love the simple and straightforward way in which she explains things.
What were your favourites of this month?

  1. Congrats on finishing, Assia! I hope you're enjoying some time off after your studies :)
That last YouTube channel on health and eating right is definitely something I'd be interested in.
May seemed to be the month where I got together with friends now that the weather is finally warmer. So far in June, I've been seeing more family than anything, but I love the balance. May was the month of getting together, catching up and talking about possible travel plans we'd be taking this summer. June has been more family-based.
Hope you're enjoying some well-deserved time off!
